We had the opportunity to hold a Train the Trainer workshop at the central branch of Seattle Public Library on Feb 9th. This one ran about 3 hours with about 10 participants from different backgrounds.
After Karen Fisher presented about the background of Teen Design Day project and the purpose of it, the workshop actually began with attendees trying to hack an everyday activity. We asked them to (1) identify an everyday problem, (2) present it to other groups and (3) design something to solve it.
Other than the short duration of the workshop, we changed the material by which they could show their ideas and used only Lego kits. The result was amazing and attendees found it a very empowering tool for storytelling and idea development. In the end, each group presented their idea and received feedback from other participants.
We had a great time working with this group and look forward to doing our next Train the Trainer Workshop.
